Authorities are worried that north-facing sun-drenched balconies in a proposed block could soon be hard up against a new building.

The outrage of apartment owners who have fallen victim to developers blocking their views has resulted in Auckland City Council's urban design panel requesting that the developer of a new block advise prospective buyers that their views might be built out.

Developer 208 Hobson Street Trust has applied to build a nine-level apartment block at 208-210 Hobson St, between Cook St and the onramp to Spaghetti Junction.

To meet the council's new anti-shoebox apartment rules, every apartment in the 72-unit block will be more than 30sq m.

But the council's urban design panel has gone a step further and asked for a warning to be issued about disappearing views.
