An agreement has been brokered in the ongoing battle of a Mapua couple unable to build on their section following months of negotiations.

Tasman Mayor John Hurley said the council helped mediate the agreement that would see developer Mike Stephens pay a $300 resource consent application fee for property owners Bryce and Yvette Cook.
Mr Stephens would also pay "several thousand dollars" for any professional assistance the Cooks required in seeking consent, Mr Hurley said.
The Cooks have been unable to build on their 21m-wide Te Aroha Pl, Mapua, section since they discovered about five months ago council setback rules prohibited them from constructing within 23m of the neighbouring orchard owned by Graham Thawley.
