Gore arsons put bite on insurers

Gore business owners wanting to take out insurance on their properties as the threat of more arson attacks continues were struggling to find an insurer willing to take them on, Gore-based insurance broker Brian Pitcher said yesterday.

The series of arsons in the past two weeks meant a big increase in the amount of work, with a lot of people making sure they were adequately covered.

There have been no problems increasing the amount of cover for existing policy holders, Mr Pitcher said. However, the chances were "pretty slim" for anyone wanting to take out insurance on property previously uninsured, he said.
