Guest nights spent in New Zealand hotels and other short-term commercial accommodation rose 6 percent in July compared with a year earlier, according to official data released on Thursday.

Actual guest nights totalled 2.1 million in July, which, on a seasonally adjusted basis, were down 1.9 percent on the previous month, after June's rise of 3.6 percent.
The trend level, which accounts for seasonal and one-off factors, was 7 percent higher than a year earlier, Statistics New Zealand said, and 8 percent higher than July 2002.
