A group representing residential care providers predicts smaller rest homes in rural communities are facing difficult times, as Government funding dwindles.
A public meeting was held at the Pahiatua Town Hall last night to discuss the future of the Waireka Home, a 56-bed facility.
It has provided longterm hospital care for the elderly alongside its rest home services since Pahiatua Hospital closed in 1999.
