The 118ha property near Hamilton's northern boundary was sold for $8.25 million to a Waikato farming family looking to subdivide.

The sale blitzed the last Waikato record, thought to be around $42,000 a hectare, for a 157ha Tatua farm sold last year.

The farm has been in the same family for three generations and is at the north end of River Rd near the Horotiu Bridge.

The offer was one of four for the property since July after Waikato District Council agreed to progressively turn over 1800ha of land to Hamilton for northern growth.
