The 3 Auckland City Council commissioners – Cllr Juliet Yates as chairman with local ward councillors Bill Christian & Sheryl McKelvie – made some minor changes to conditions and agreed to make signage the subject of a separate application.

Property trust founder Richard Didsbury told the commissioners the trust had signed a memorandum of understanding with Auckland University of Technology to establish a satellite campus at Sylvia Park, in one of 5 distinct precincts in the 24ha development.

Work on the site will start on Monday 4 October after a Maori blessing at 5am.

Development will be staged through to the end of 2006.

Sylvia Park is beside the Southern Motorway at Mt Wellington, with Mt Wellington Highway on its western boundary, the North Island main trunk railway line to the east and the South-eastern Arterial Route cutting across the middle.
