Work is now underway on the residential development of Beechnest, on the shores of Lake Rotoiti at the gateway to the Nelson Lakes National Park – with strong demand seeing three-quarters of the released properties already sold.

Featuring 61 lots for residential development and one for commercial, the Beechnest site near the township of St Arnaud is one of only a few sites available for development around the Nelson Lakes. Properties on the 12.1-hectare development range from 1000m2 to 1450m2.

“With such a limited supply of residential land in the area and the prime position of Beechnest, we have seen high levels of interest in this development,” says Property Ventures sales manager, Luke Richardson.

Of the 42 Beechnest sections that have been released to the market, 30 have already been sold.

The Nelson Lakes National Park is renowned for its extensive honeydew beech forests, and incorporates two lakes, Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotoroa.

Framed by snow-capped mountains and flanked by Lake Rotoiti, the majority of allotments at Beechnest will offer elevated views over the St Arnaud mountain range and Mt Robert.

Richardson says landscape planting will be of species indigenous to the St Arnaud locality and the absence of boundary fences will preserve the open, rural feel.

Located just 120km from Nelson and 100km from Blenheim, St Arnaud is a popular visitor destination with a variety of local amenities and attractions. The town is the gateway to the Nelson Lakes, and offers access to both Golden and Tasman Bays, and the Marlborough wine region.

“Travelling distances make St Arnaud an extremely attractive destination from Nelson, Blenheim and also Christchurch – although it remains largely undiscovered by the Christchurch market at this point,” says Richardson.

Beechnest construction work is expected to be completed by early 2008.
