It was announced yesterday that the National Bank brand will be scrapped in a process starting next month.
But ANZ said National Bank home loan customers would not notice any difference.
Spokesman Steffan Herrick said for the past year both banks had the same loan offers and carded interest rates.
He said it was a market perception, not reality, that ANZ pushed harder for loan business.
The rights to the black horse imagery associated with National Bank's branding have to be handed back to Britain's TSB in 2014, prompting the change.
