Aucklanders are being challenged to fit another 400,000 homes into their city.
The Auckland Council is offering a “housing simulator” that is designed to allow people to visualise the decisions that have to be made through the unitary plan.
Councillor Michael Goudie said it showed the trade-offs between building heights, density growth and urban sprawl.
He said there were more than three million “solutions” that would create at least 400,000 homes.
Goudie said people needed to remember that while the unitary plan would set the rules for development, what actually happened would depend on the landowners.
