The data compares the average of six-month rolling median rent prices to February this year compared to the same period the year before.

Three-bedroom homes in Birkenhead had one of the biggest rental increases over that time, with prices up 10% on the year before.

One-bedroom properties in Manukau posted an increase of 11% and Howick one-bedrooms were up 12%. But that is likely due to the relatively small number of bonds received for those properties.

Four-bedroom properties in the city centre had the biggest fall, down 18%. That is also likely due to the small number of those properties being rented.

The bays, from Mission Bay to St Heliers, Grey Lynn, Pt Chevalier and Remuera all posted 7% year-on-year growth. Ponsonby recorded 9% year-on-year rent growth.

Takapuna two-bedroom properties also showed strong year-on-year rental growth, up 9%.
