After becoming involved in real estate 22 years ago, she put a goal in place to retire at 45 to kick back and enjoy life with her family.

But the passion for property she discovered along the way meant she didn’t quite hit that goal.

“It’s so much fun and so satisfying, it almost feels like an addiction. I even suggest to my tenants that they should aim to become landlords one day.”

Now aged 50, Jess has built up an impressive rental portfolio – although she claims she is firmly in retirement mode.

For investors pondering how to secure the best tenant, it would pay to heed the advice of Jess, who is profiled in the latest issue of NZ Property Investor magazine.

Her long career in the social housing sector has resulted in a strong understanding of tenants’ needs. And, over the course of her investing career, Jess has developed her own portfolio of happy tenants.

Working with your tenants is crucial, she told NZ Property Investor magazine.
