FMA adds investment management capability

The Financial Markets Authority is adding to its executive team with a director of investment management.

Tuesday, July 7th 2020, 6:02AM

The regulator has advertised the role, which it says will lead a new team housing the FMA's investment  management "subject matter experts".

They will be responsible for designing, delivering and communicating the FMA's approach to the investment management sector.

This is something the FMA has been taking a bigger role in in recent times – including a review of active and passive management commissioned from MyFiduciary.

Default KiwiSaver schemes are also being asked to tender for the next default round and will have additional standards to meet.

The FMA said the role had been created to reflect the regulators' role in working closely with KiwiSaver and managed investment scheme providers to ensure the FMA has a strong influence over and good understanding of key issues for the industry.

The candidate would have executive-level experience investment management and some experience of retail financial services regulation.

The role will report directly to Rob Everett. Applications close on July 12.
