Milestone Financial Group’s new head Grant Pearson told Good Returns that “there’s a need amongst IFA advisers to work together more on the bigger issues in the industry”.

“The precursor to this is that when you have Covid, and the massive structural changes in the finance industry, you need to think how do everyday advisers respond to these challenges?”

The answer that Pearson has seen a lot of the industry using is by having dry, intellectual, “death by PowerPoint”. In the first of three limited audience adviser forums, Milestone wants to offer something different.

“We felt that there was space there for people to be stretched mentally, but to also take away very pragmatic things that advisers could implement in their portfolios the very same week.”

Pragmatism is key for this event. Pearson wants to organise a fast-moving, engaging event which gives advisers “a little bit of extra know how, exposure to ideas they had never thought about that they can take back into their practice when they are talking to a client”.

Key speakers at the event will be Mint Asset Management chief executive Rebecca Thomas, Nikko Asset Management chief executive George Carter, Harbour Asset Management managing director Andrew Bascand, and Chris Douglas, principal of MyFiduciary.

Pearson says that Milestone also has their eye on expanding their audience beyond advisers.
