Christian Hawkesby has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank.
He will take up the role next year.
Hawkesby is currently Assistant Governor / General Manager of Economics, Financial Markets and Banking at the Bank.
He will replace Geoff Bascand, who is leaving the Reserve Bank in January after 8 years.
Hawkesby will remain as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee.
He is an economics graduate from the University of Canterbury and has worked for both Harbour Asset Management and the Bank of England.
