Dean McDougall has been appointed to the role of General Manager for Newpark Group.

McDougall joined the Navy directly from school until he left in September 2016.

He is a very experienced people leader and was an International Fellow at the National Defence University Masters Programme focused on strategic leadership. He has been the Captain of both HMNZS Canterbury the Naval Base in Devonport, including shared responsibility for the Naval Dockyard. He finished his naval career as the second in command of the whole Navy.

Newpark Managing Director Darren Gannon says the group is preparing a business model designed to offer the best support in New Zealand to independent advisers. He says the advisory industry is heading into a new period of professionalism and regulation.

"McDougall is an exceptional leader who is excited about the opportunity ahead and the chance to be involved with 400 independent contractors."

"He brings a very diverse set of experiences having taken up a new role in the Navy and wider Defence Force every two to three years."

Gannon says the group will shortly be announcing new appointments to the Newpark Board "which will include some exceptional people who are committed like us to offering the best support in New Zealand to independent advisers."

Congratulations Newpark on an awesome strategy! By appointing a "skipper" (pun intended) with Deans credentials, you are adding great value and integrity to the already phenomenal Newpark Offering to its advisers. Yup, I'm biased! :)

Great to see Newpark taking the early initiative as well as appointing someone with such obvious experience and business acumen from outside the financial services industry. Well done.
