Shannon Murphy

Hamish Pepper has joined the Wellington-based fund manager in the role of Fixed Income Market Strategist

He is a former Barclays Asia Head of FX and Emerging Markets Macro Strategy. At Harbour he will have specific responsibilities for macro-economic research, and fixed interest and currency strategy.

Pepper will be working alongside Mark Brown, George Henderson and Simon Pannett managing around $2 billion of fixed income investments for clients.  Harbour’s fixed income team was recently awarded the KangaNews award for NZ Fund Manager of the Year.

“Hamish will be a strong addition to our team and brings with him a wealth of experience in economics and market strategy. We expect that his global experience, particularly in Asian Emerging Markets, will be a terrific complement to our existing capabilities” says Head of Fixed Income, Mark Brown.

“His considerable analytical skills on central bank policy and economic data will be reflected in investment decisions across all asset classes, in particular fixed income and currency.”

Pepper joined Barclays Investment Bank in 2011 and worked in its Singapore and London offices. He was most recently Head of Foreign Exchange and Emerging Market Macro Strategy Research for Asia, based out of Singapore.

Prior to that he was a senior analyst in the Financial Markets Research team at the Reserve Bank of NZ, responsible for presenting financial market analysis to RBNZ policymakers and other government agencies. He holds a first class BCA (Hons) in Economics.

Harbour has also added Shannon Murphy as an Investment Specialist.

Harbour Executive Director Ainsley McLaren says Murphy has a wealth of experience in financial and relationship management roles. She has most recently worked with Lifetime Retirement Income as Group Development Manager, helping to develop relationships with financial advisors around New Zealand and grow their understanding of the role annuities can play in a retirement portfolio.

“We’re delighted to have someone of Shannon’s calibre on board to support our loyal community of advisors,” McLaren says. “Her mix of investment experience and strong people skills will make her a brilliant addition to the Harbour team.”

Murphy’s focus will be on fostering relationships and engagement, and keeping strong lines of communication between Harbour’s investment team and financial advisors. She will be based in Harbour’s Auckland office, but will travel regularly across New Zealand.

Originally from the USA, Murphy was previously a Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney/Wells Fargo Advisors in Washington. She was also a Regional Marketing Specialist and Team Leader at SunAmerica Retirement Markets in California.
