David Haak

Sovereign's former head of distribution, David Haak, has joined Cigna.

He will be based in the company's Takapuna office and will be working closely with Cigna's Head of Distribution and Head of Strategy to help further enhance Cigna’s value proposition to independent financial advisers.

"His appointment is part of our ongoing commitment to IFAs and the role they play to support New Zealanders and their financial well-being," the company says in a statement.

Haak stepped down as Sovereign chief distribution officer in 2015.

He has more than 35 years as a leader in the insurance industry, 19 of which as an executive at Sovereign Assurance.

I dare say Cigna just got that extra grunt it's been looking for.

Really positive news. NZ has been blessed by many successful leaders and it is good that their skills can skill be utilised. Similar to WHO using the skills of Helen Clark we have the insurance industry benefitting from the skills of David. So positive that we are able to benefit from these successful leaders from the recent past.

Tactical move by CIGNA and looks like they have a lot of bench strength now in sales, underwriting and product / pricing.
