Ronan McCabe was appointed permanent CIO and given partnership in late January.

McCabe has retained his role as head of portfolio management, Pacific and will be permanently responsible for the NZ investment team and all Mercer NZ funds.

Pacific CIO Kylie Willment said she was excited for McCabe to leverage his local and international expertise to drive greater investment outcomes for clients.

“Having undertaken a rigorous recruitment process, it is clear to us that Ronan is the right person for the job. Ronan’s dual role will enable him to maintain a strong connection to the business on a regional and global level, and bring the best of Mercer to our clients in New Zealand,” she said.

“I have no doubt that our clients in New Zealand will benefit from the breadth of Ronan’s investment capabilities, as they have over the past four months,” Willment continued.

Martin Lewington, Mercer New Zealand CEO, said McCabe had already made his mark on New Zealand clients with his wealth of investment knowledge.

“Ronan has established a strong rapport with our clients and colleagues in New Zealand, and we’re delighted that he will join the New Zealand leadership team permanently,” he said.

McCabe said he was looking forward to strengthening his relationships with clients in New Zealand.

“I’m excited to be taking on this role, and getting to know our clients on a deeper level once my boots are on the ground in Auckland. It has been a tumultuous year, particularly for our investments team in the region, but with eyes wide open, I’m looking forward to partnering with clients to help them realise their investment objectives,” he said.

Prior to Mercer McCabe was a senior investment manager for the Irish Strategic Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Ireland. He has also held portfolio management roles at Pioneer Investments (part of the Amundi group, Europe’s largest asset manager), Incisive Capital Management and DZ Bank Ireland.
