Two new Guardians appointed

The Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation has made two key appointments to its senior leadership team.

Paula Steed has been appointed as general manager finance and investment operations.

Steed will have responsibility for the Guardians’ finance, tax, internal audit and investment operations’ teams.

Currently Steed is the chief internal auditor at ASB Bank. She has previously worked as chief financial officer at UDC Finance and as division financial controller at ANZ.

The second appointment is Mark Fennell.

At present Fennell is Guardians’ general manager portfolio completion. He has been appointed as general manager risk. Fennell will be responsible for the Guardians’ risk, data services and records management teams.

Fennell joined the Guardians in 2007 as chief operating officer, becoming general manager portfolio completion in 2012.

Prior to joining the Guardians he held senior treasury or risk management roles at The Warehouse Group, Forestry Corporation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and NZ Railways Corporation.

The appointees will take up their new roles on July 5.
