Heathcote adds another manager to its portfolio
Global fund manager Orbis Investments has named Heathcote Investment Partners as its distribution partner in New Zealand.
Under the agreement, Heathcote Investment Partners will represent Orbis to New Zealand financial advisers, research houses, platforms and wholesale investors. The partnership begins with the Orbis Global Equity Fund, bringing Orbis’s contrarian, long-term approach to a wider New Zealand audience.
Orbis has managed global equities for over 30 years, with a team of more than 60 investment professionals focused on identifying undervalued companies rather than tracking market trends. The firm manages over A$80 billion in assets.
The appointment comes as advisers increasingly look beyond the small group of mega-cap stocks that have driven global index returns, with renewed focus on valuation discipline and diversification.
Eric Marais, Head of Clients - Australia at Orbis Investments, said demand from New Zealand for actively managed global equities was growing. “We believe our contrarian approach results in a Global Equity portfolio that brings significant diversification potential to the market.”
Heathcote Investment Partners Principal Clayton Coplestone said many portfolios had quietly become concentrated in the same handful of large companies, often through passive exposure. “Orbis offers advisers a truly different option: a patient, research-driven manager with the conviction to invest away from the crowd. We think the timing for that conversation is right.”
