Two people who have played a big role in the financial services sector were honoured at an Awards ceremony last night.

Rob Flannagan received the prestigious Chair’s Award for Service to the Industry, at the Financial Services Council (FSC) conferenc. While Gavin Quigan received the Workplace Savings Award.

Flannagan has spent many years chairing the FSC while Quigan was the Government Actuary. After that role was disestablished he moved to the FMA.

FSC Chief Executive Kirk Hope says this year’s winners demonstrate the positive contribution the financial services sector is making to the lives and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

AIA New Zealand received both the Excellence in ESG Award and Excellence in Wellbeing & Inclusion Award, recognising its work to reduce its environmental footprint and embed sustainability across its operations, alongside efforts to improve workplace accessibility through initiatives including its employee-led Accessibility Network and Neurodiversity Toolkit.

Fidelity Life was recognised for both innovation and leadership, taking home Innovation of the Year for its data-driven Claims 3D Tool, designed to improve the management of long-term disability claims, and Head of Claims Raffi Rassam receiving the Emerging Trailblazer Award.

nib New Zealand received the Contribution to Community Award for its work to improve the health and wellbeing of Pacific Recognised Seasonal Employer workers, reducing barriers to healthcare through translated resources, improved access to care and targeted health initiatives delivered in partnership with employers and government.

Westpac’s Financial Wellbeing and Inclusion Team was named Team of the Year for its work to improve financial wellbeing and inclusion, including helping reduce barriers to banking for people experiencing vulnerability and supporting greater access to financial education, equitable banking services and tailored support.

Hope says; “The breadth of this year’s winners reflects a sector continually challenging itself to do things better. Their work shows how strong leadership and practical innovation can make a real difference to customers, communities and the financial wellbeing of New Zealand.”
