Barry Read, founder of compliance firm IDS, has been appointed general manager of Evergreen Life.
IDS was recently merged with Strategi. Read announced his resignation last month but only revealed on Tuesday what his next role would be.
Managing director Michael Broadbent said Evergreen was growing its adviser team and developing "easy-to-use insurance advice systems that provide a great customer experience"!.
He said the business wanted to make a start on getting ready for the new regime.
"To get licence-ready we want to ensure our business meets industry best practice, and we felt Barry was the right person to lead the organisation through this growth phase. Barry has 31 years’ experience in the Insurance Industry and we have worked with Barry over the last seven years in his previous role as managing director of IDS, for compliance support, which we found invaluable. He will also continue his work in industry groups and leadership roles moving forward," Broadbent said.
"We think the advised insurance sales business is due for a step change, clients’ needs are changing and how they utilise advice and insurance solutions will change as tech becomes more of a factor in the customer experience. But at the heart of the business is the ability to sell the need for insurance to families and SMEs. At Evergreen we think that consultative ethical selling of insurance is a great service for New Zealanders, and while the industry is under scrutiny from consumer groups, media and the regulators, this creates the opportunity for firms, like ours, to evolve and succeed by delivering great insurance outcomes for clients."
