Grimes on bank board

Arthur Grimes, a leading monetary policy expert, has been appointed a non-executive director of the Reserve Bank for a term of five years.
He replaces Professor Viv Hall, whose term expired on February 28. Professor Hall has served two five-year terms on the board.
Dr Grimes is an independent economic consultant and a visiting lecturer at Victoria University. He is also a senior research associate for Motu Economic and Public Policy Research Trust. Until recently he was director of Victoria University's Institute of Policy Studies.

Grimes was also head of National Bank's former funds management arm Southpac. He has previously worked as Chief Economist for the National Bank and the Reserve Bank. He has a Ph.D. in economics from the London School of Economics. Other RBNZ non-executive directors are: Paul Baines, John Goulter, Alison Paterson, Hon Ruth Richardson, Sir Gil Simpson, and Bill Wilson. Non-executive directors are paid fees of $15,000 a year.
