FPIA's new independent directors named

Friday, March 5th 2004, 10:26AM
The nine-member FPIA Board saw three changes made at the FPIA Council meeting held in Wellington on February 26. The changes also reflected some changes to board structure (mainly the inclusion to two independent members).

Departing members were:

  • John Bunny ALU AFP (Outgoing president, insurance adviser from Masterton)
  • Sarah Barlow CFP (Financial planner, from Tauranga), and
  • Steve Richens (Insurance adviser, from Christchurch)
  • The new board structure consists of President (appointed by progression), Vice-president (elected by previous board), two College chairs and three Practitioner directors (all five elected by the Council), plus the two independent directors. The independent directors are appointed by the council on the recommendation of the appointments committee which comprises the president, vice-president and the immediate past president). The three new members this year are:

  • Independent Ross Butler (Director, from Nelson)
  • Independent Ferne Bradley (Solicitor, from Christchurch), and
  • Practitioner Cecilia Farrow (General member, insurance adviser, from Auckland).
  • Currently serving board members who were returned to office were:

  • President Stephen O'Connor CFP (Financial Planner, from Invercargill)
  • Vice President George Elkington CFP (Financial Planner, from Wellington)
  • Chair, College of Financial Planners Simon Hassan CFP (Financial Planner, from Auckland)
  • Chair, College of Insurance Advisers Garth Clarricoats CLU, AFP (Financial Planner, from New Plymouth)
  • Practitioner John Sumner CFP (Financial Planner, from Hawkes Bay)
  • Practitioner Vern Mardon CLU, Fellow FPIA (Insurance Adviser, from Nelson)
  • The new Board takes office on April 1, and its first meeting will be in Wellington on May 7.
