Fund Manager of the Year nominees announced

ANZ and its recent acquisition National Bank dominate the nominations in this year's FundSource Fund Manager of the Year Awards.

Tower is defending its position as FundSource Fund Manager of the Year award against ING and its recently acquired funds management subsidiary National Bank.

The finalists for the awards, which are split into two groups – overall fund manager of the year, and 10 individual sector awards - have just been announced.

While it is unclear who is the likely to win the overall award, the NBNZ clearly is the hot favourite to scoop the sector awards with seven nominations across the 10 individual sectors.

ING has the next highest number of nominations with four in total. Tower and Guardian Trust have two each, however Asteron (which is related to Guardian Trust) also has one.

Like last year there are no nominations for the international fixed interest and two sectors are already decided – international shares and the defensive balanced funds. Tower’s Global Gateway fund is the only nominee in the former, while NBNZ’s Thoroughbred conservative trust is the sole finalist in the latter sector.

Also a trend which has been emerging is for the mortgage sector to be dominated by the regional mortgage trusts. The winners will be announced on October 28.
