Quiet achiever takes top fund award
One of the quiet achievers of the funds management industry in New Zealand has taken out the top spot in the Morningstar Fund Manager of the Year Awards announced last night.

Suncorp-owned Tyndall Investment Management scooped the award, beating AMP Capital and ASB Group Investments.Tyndall also won the sector award for International Equities. Morningstar head of Adviser and Research Anthony Serhan says it was close for the top award, and that Tyndall had done well across the sectors.
"Tyndall has combined a great year in 2007, excellent longer-term risk-adjusted performance, and high-quality people and processes to take out the top award."
While it won International Shares he also noted that the company had a strong performance in the domestic equities sector, which was won by Brook Asset Management.
"Special mention should go to the (Tyndall) New Zealand equities team, especially in its management of smaller companies which had a very good year when others faltered," Serhan said.
Another much watched award is in the multi-sector category.
This year Tower Managed Funds was number one, while AMP Capital and ASB Group were finalists.
Morningstar was effusive about Brook's performance in domestic equities: "Brook has a superb track record in New Zealand shares investing, the envy of its competitors and a credit to the shop's resources and the talented leadership of Simon Botherway and Paul Glass. Brook has continued to go from strength to strength in the generation of outstanding performance for its share fund investors, and 2007 was another great year."
