Council to tighten cladding rules

The Tasman District Council plans to tighten its rules for houses built with plaster, stucco and similar claddings to make them less leak-prone.

Environment and planning manager Dennis Bush-King said the council would soon require houses with monolithic cladding systems to have a cavity to drain away water.

The move was in response to measures announced last week by the Auckland City Council, he said.
