Residential Property Lending Workshop

16 March 2020

Workshop Overview

This workshop has been jointly developed between Financial Advice New Zealand and Professional IQ College (PIQ), with input from the major banks.

The workshop includes NZQA accredited Residential Property Lending Strand training and business and specialist lending. As well as attending the three-day workshop, you will be required to complete 4 unit standard assessments after the course to receive the Residential Property Lending Strand Certificate. You have up to 3 months to complete this.

The course’s practical format prepares new advisers for their regulatory requirements; how to work with lenders; meeting client needs and the practicalities of running a mortgage advice business. The course also incorporates feedback from the industry and has received strong support from both adviser dealer groups and lenders.

Being in-house, you gain the benefits of being with other students in an interactive and open learning environment that delivers greater levels of learning than other ‘online’ or ‘remote’ courses. The course content includes loan structures and best practice loan applications.

What you need to know:

  • Required Qualification to be a Financial Adviser (Residential Property Lending) – from 29 June 2020
  • From 29 June 2020 all new financial advisers will be required, under the new legislation and regulations, to attain the NZ Certificate in Financial Services Level 5 (NZCFSL5) in their area of advice. By attaining now your Residential Property Lending module of that qualification, you have started down the path of meeting your future requirements! However after 29 June 2020 new advisers will also have to attain the ‘core component’ of the qualification – so we highly recommend you sign up for this also.
  • PIQ College in conjunction with Skills Org offer the Level 5 ‘Training Agreement Rebate’ of $550+GST for students in employment who sign up to the entire qualification. Please read as strict conditions apply.

Note: if you are already a financial adviser and going to be under a Financial Advice Provider ‘transitional licence’ you will have until June 29 2022 to attain your full competency requirements – that is: attaining the ‘core component’ residential property lending strand of the NZCFSL5.

Workshop fees - $1,295.00 plus GST

This includes course material, morning and afternoon tea, lunch and the NZQA assessment (residential property strand only) and 15 hours CPD.

Course Tutor - Angi Mann BA BBS Cert AdEd

Angi has had extensive training and adviser experience in the lending sector and wider financial services and is an approved Professional IQ College assessor for NZQA qualifications for level 4 and 5 qualifications.

She has attained BA and Business Studies degree from Massey University and holds a Massey qualification in Adult Education

Workshop Requirements

To complete the course you must hold a NZ passport or permanent residency, you will be required to provide your passport or birth certificate as proof. Also, students must meet the English language requirements.

Getting Accreditation

Attaining the Residential Lending module is an education requirement to become accredited with some New Zealand lenders. It is best to discuss your situation with the lenders to understand your individual accreditation requirements.

Some lenders also require advisers to belong to an ‘aggregation’ group Please note that the aggregation groups may also have their own requirements you must meet. Again, it is best to have a chat with the groups too. Find out what they offer and which one best fits you.

If you would like to discuss these requirements and your eligibility to join an aggregation group please speak to course tutor Angi Mann who will refer you to the appropriate person. Course cancellation The course will not go ahead if there is an insufficient number of enrolments. You will be notified of cancellation at least 5 working days prior to the course start date.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are travelling to Auckland for this course we advise you take out flight-insurance cover with Jetstar or Air New Zealand in case of disruptions, unexpected travel issues or course cancellation. If you wish to cancel – a minimum of 5 working days notice is required to cancel your place on the course, otherwise, you will be charged a 25% cancellation fee.

Catering

Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea are provided. If you have any dietary requirements, please let the College know upon enrolment – so we can manage your needs accordingly. We cannot make changes on the day, so please ensure we are notified at least 5-working days prior to the training.
