Mortgage Link recognises its champions

Mortgage Link, the nationally branded mortgage advisory group, recently held its annual conference in Nelson and recognised its champion performers.

Thursday, July 2nd 2009, 6:12PM

At a time when the financial services industry is under significant pressure, the Mortgage Link group continues to back its strategies and is seeing positive results from these.

Rod Templeton, Chief Executive, said "While our business is influenced by the residential property market and the availability of credit from main lenders, we have always backed our advice model and we are seeing the benefits of this.

"Mortgage Link, as the company supporting our independent business owners, has always needed to provide a proposition for its businesses as its success depends on their individual successes. Our national conference is always a great time to reinforce our strategies, as well as have everyone receive the benefit of our "Mortgage Link family" approach - being a very supportive and positive network".

Mortgage Link believes the current environment reinforces its advice model, with the focus by lenders on clients' debt and the significant options available, clients and potential clients are seeing the value of specialist, expert advice. While mortgage brokers have traditionally helped facilitate mortgage applications, groups such as Mortgage Link very much see their role to be providing advice so clients receive value and not just an easy access to a loan.

Rod Templeton confirmed the recent national conference focussed on business owner strategies (things any business needs to have to flourish in this environment), understanding the importance of partnerships (with lenders and alliance providers) along with the obvious focus on developing further expertise for advice to clients.

"As well as all this", said Rod Templeton "we celebrate the achievements of our champions, so that all our group understand the types of values we are striving for. We are proud of our winners and it is a reflection of their pride that all refer to their awards on their brand collateral".

Phil: What to make of the Kiwibank deal
Rumours had been circulating for a while that Gareth Morgan’s KiwiSaver business was on the market.

Russell: Selling through employers
I always thought selling insurance to people through their employers was the flimsiest of propositions – why would anyone talk to you about insurance in the work café, with their mates hanging around for the ‘convenience’ of paying for the same thing they can buy in the plush, private, offices of the bank for the same price? But in many markets, the UK, the US, to name just two, employer-facilitated (voluntary group) insurance is a big market.

Goldie: FATCAT. Opps I mean FATCA
I’m sure someone with a sense of humour thought up this acronym. Now some of you may be asking what an earth is FATCA? It is the: “Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act” to be imposed by the United States of America in 2013.

Phil: Greens KiwiSaver policy nice idea but…
The Green Party released its KiwiSaver policy yesterday which has all the hallmarks of a nice idea but probably not that realistic.
