Clients surveyed

Financial advice clients’ perspective on the industry is being sought by Massey University researchers.

Janine Scott and Claire Matthews are asking consumers of financial advice to take part in an online survey examining their experiences with advice.

Participants are asked about their choice of adviser, what attributes are important to them when choosing an adviser, and their view of the Financial Advisers Act (FAA).

Scott and Matthews want feedback from clients of a range of types of adviser including mortgage brokers, risk advisers and investment advisers.

“We believe this project is important to help inform the ongoing discussion about the financial advice profession in New Zealand.”

Scott said: “We are hoping to gain some perspective from consumers of financial advice—specifically targeting knowledge of the type of financial advisers used currently or in the past, basic awareness of the FAA, areas consumers typically seek for financial planning advice, as well as overall satisfaction with financial professionals. Our results may help inform our FAA Review submission to MBIE. But moreover, the results of this research project may also be used for publication within international journals relevant to financial advice and practice.”
