Boutique hotel to be built on Bay Hill
The Bay Hill is to have its first major development with a boutique hotel but the site is somewhat of a surprise.

The plans for the five-storey, multi-million dollar hotel have been drawn by award-winning Christchurch architect Peter Beaven and it is to be built on the Sea Breeze motel site.The Lambie Family Trust (which includes Federated Farmers of New Zealand president Tom Lambie) have applied for a building consent with the Timaru District Council and the plans show each hotel room will have a feature bay window, a balcony and will face the sea.
It appears the hotel will utilise the existing restaurants on the Bay Hill but no final decision has been made.
Council district planner Andrew Hammond said no decision had been made as to whether it will or will not be required to have a notified consent. However, the proposed building does exceed the 20m height restriction for the area.
Spokesperson for the trust developing the site, Ruth Lambie, said yesterday it was too early to release too many details but she had plenty of confidence in what was to happen "especially on that site".
