Jonathan Taylor, Product Manager at OMNIMax, answers questions about what prompted the Tool’s creation, how it works, and who it's suited to.
What prompted OMNIMax to create Investment Adviser Tool?
Jonathan: The main driver was the need for investment advisers to move beyond just recommending a product and instead provide clients with a holistic view of their financial position, now and into the future.
Advisers often use multiple spreadsheets, tools, and data sources, which can be messy and inefficient. Our goal was to bring everything together into one streamlined workflow. Investment Adviser Tool combines projections, product information, and reporting in a single system, making it easier for advisers to give professional, comprehensive advice.
Can you walk us through the key features?
Jonathan: The Tool streamlines the full advisory workflow, covering everything from fact find through recommendations, client-ready reports and an authority to proceed process. Clients can sign off digitally or in person and advisers can collect details to help with the application process such as nature and purpose or bank details.
It is personalised to the adviser – using their logo, preferred providers, and branding, and securely hosted in the cloud, ready to scale as their business grows.
How does the software help advisers present advice in a way clients understand and can engage with?
Jonathan: For advisers using the Pro version, one of the most powerful features is the Projection Tool. Instead of just handing over a report, advisers can use the Tool live in meetings so clients can see, in real time, how different decisions, like saving more, retiring earlier, or changing their risk profile, affect their goals.
It’s an engaging, visual experience that turns complex scenarios into something easy to understand. Clients can ask “What if I…?” questions and instantly see the results on screen. The Tool factors in real-world details such as KiwiSaver eligibility by age, property investments, and product-specific rules, making the modelling accurate and relevant.
This live interaction not only builds client understanding but also creates genuine buy-in. They can see how their own choices change outcomes, which helps shift the focus from selling products to providing holistic, goal-based advice.
H2Is Investment Adviser Tool better suited to independent advisers, or can it scale to large firms?
Jonathan: Both can use it successfully. We have one-adviser businesses using it, but it has also been configured for some of New Zealand’s largest private wealth and retail firms. It can be tailored to broad scenarios or locked down to meet the stricter requirements of larger organisations.
What’s the learning curve like?
Jonathan: It’s very intuitive. Investment Adviser Tool steps advisers through the advice process one stage at a time. You simply complete each part of the workflow, then move to the next part. It’s a guided process that makes it easy for users to follow along and build confidence quickly.
For Projection Tool, advisers' familiar with projections and modelling pick it up quickly, often faster than working with spreadsheets or other tools. Of course, there’s always some learning involved in exploring different scenarios, but overall, most advisers get comfortable with it right out of the box.
Final Thoughts
OMNIMax’s Investment Adviser Tool isn’t just about projections or advice, it’s about creating an engaging, holistic, and efficient client experience.
Whether for a solo adviser or a large firm, the Tool is designed to simplify workflows, build trust, and help clients make better financial decisions.
