RIAA Conference made more adviser friendly

The Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) conference has had a makeover this year to make it more adviser friendly.

Sunday, July 26th 2026, 3:57PM

Financial adviser Carey Church says the financial adviser stream has had a total revamp and there is now a special registration fee for advisers.

In addition to this offer six fund managers have been asked to sponsor up to five advisers each to attend.

Special Offer: Financial advisers reading Good Returns can get a ticket for $250 instead of $590.

To access this offer use this link RIAoNZ26250.

Financial adviser members of RIAA attend for nothing as part of their membership.

Here is the revamped programme. There are four adviser-focussed sessions:

Lost in Translation: Jargon Busting is a facilitated round-table workshop that tackles the language barrier head on. Responsible investment terminology can be a steep learning curve, and this session is designed to build the confidence advisers need to work in this field and have those conversations credibly with clients.

Geopolitics and Sovereign Risk brings together two fund managers from different asset classes to examine how geopolitical forces are reshaping risks across global markets, and to equip advisers with a clearer set of questions to apply when assessing any internationally invested fund.

Beyond the Exclusion List: Can Mining Be a Responsible Investment is a one-on-one conversation with Jessica Cairns, Head of ESG and Sustainability at Alphinity Investment Management, exploring how fund managers actually assess mining companies, what standards they must meet to be investable, and how advisers can respond when a client asks why a mining company is in their portfolio.

Building a Responsible Investment Portfolio opens up the fund research process. Three practitioners walk through how they actually do the work, covering fund selection, asset allocation, and what they require from fund managers, followed by Jono Broome from Sustainalytics demonstrating how a research house assesses specific companies that appear in portfolios across the industry, including some that may surprise advisers.

The one-day conference will be held on September 22, at the Cordis Hotel, Auckland.
