ORC gets sorted

Sorted is the new educational campaign from the Office of the Retirement Commissioner.

Since the Government slashed the office's funding it has had to look at cost-effective ways of carrying out its public education campaign.

With limited funds television advertising is out, so it's turned to the Net.

Public education manager Liz Read says Sorted is designed to give New Zealanders better financial skills throughout life.

It aims to help people: make better decisions about saving, investing or taking on debt; budget better; teach their children better money management skills; and ultimately, to have a better retirement through learning better financial skills throughout life.

Read says Sorted provides a unique approach to helping New Zealanders improve their standard of living.

"It is a personalised, interactive and fun way to improve your financial skills - but most importantly of all it is completely independent."

At the heart of the site are a variety of calculators and other interactive tools.

On the site you can:

• Find out your money personality profile - and learn about your money management strengths and weaknesses.
• Work out what you're worth and set future goals
• Manage your budget better with our comprehensive budget
• Calculator
• Use the savings calculators and Goal Machine to build a plan to achieve your savings goals, and to understand the power of compound interest.
• It also has other tools which help users develop a financial plan and help them choose an investment advisor.

Read says people who aren't online can get access to the site through a computer at their local library (Sorted is one of the free access sites offered by libraries).

Also there will be a printed publication Sorted Offline.
