AMP Capital Investors top the nominations at Morningstar Awards

AMP Capital Investors is leading the pack at the Morningstar New Zealand Fund Manager of the Year Awards 2010.

The company's four nominations put it one ahead of Fisher funds and OnePath, both in the running for three awards.

AMP Capital is among the finalists for the prestigious overall Fund Manager of the Year prize, which Morningstar said is awarded to the fund manager that "maintained the highest level of funds management excellence during the 2010 calendar year."

The company is also among the finalists for  fund manager of the year awards in the Fixed Interest, Domestic Equities and International Equities categories.

"We're obviously delighted to be nominated again for the Morningstar Awards, certainly the overall category especially given that we've won it the last two years," said AMP Capital Investors managing director Graham Law.

Law said he was especially pleased as the awards recognise performance over what has been a difficult time for the wider economy.

"Personally I think its great recognition for expert investment teams and the consistency of your teams and the consistency of delivery through the last few years which have been challenging."

He said the company's competitors for the overall Fund Manager of the Year Award - Fisher Funds and OnePath - are all performing well in the market.

"It's certainly an honour to be nominated, we would love to win again," he said.

He said the nominations were reflective of a good overall team effort.

"We're pretty happy, we're very happy."

The full list of finalists includes:

• Fisher Funds: Fund Manager of the Year, Fund Manager International Equities, Fund Manager KiwiSaver.
• OnePath: Fund Manager of the Year, Fund Manager International Equities, Fund Manager KiwiSaver.
• Milford Asset Management: Fund Manager of the Year Domestic Equities, Fund Manager KiwiSaver.
• PIMCO/Tower: Fund Manager Fixed Interest.
• Tyndall Investment Management: Fund Manager Fixed Interest.
• Mint Asset Management: Fund Manager Domestic Equities.

The winners will be announced at a function in Auckland on March 2.
