Prudential says it plans to retain AIA Australia

UK insurance group, Prudential has said it plans to retain the Australian operations of AIA Group.

Sources directly involved in the Prudential $35.5 billion purchase of AIA told Reuters that if the sale goes ahead Prudential may quit some countries in Asia including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Taiwan due to low market share.

Last week AIA New Zealand dismissed these rumours and said that head office in Hong Kong had told AIA to put strategies in place for growth.
