MDRT, the biggest financial adviser association in the world, has for the first time held what it calls a Global conference to compliment the its annual meeting in the United States.

In recent years demand for tickets to its annual conference has been so strong the association, which has 72,000 members worldwide, decided to run a smaller event closer to its Asian and Pacific members.

While it may be smaller, 8000 advisers turned up in Sydney for the inaugural Global event at the International Convention Centre.

Outgoing MDRT president, Ross Vanderwolf, says the event cost $10 million to put on and made a loss. Partly because a large contingent of Chinese advisers withdrew at the last minute.

However, the association is committed to the Global conference and next's year's event will be in Dubai.

In this clip the Opening Ceremony featured a Maori entertainment group; Auckland-based adviser Emily Tsai presented a session, Happy Clients, Loyal Clients, and entertainer Jason Hewlett met Sophie the AI robot.

Congratulations to Emily Tsai from NZ on being on the main speaker platform. A reflection of the high standards she has always had and a lifetime commitment to MDRT values. Well done Cheers Bernie McCrea
